From her hands, remarkable animals are born. Onto huge pieces of paper, linen, or any other material she can find, mirocomachiko traces, stamps and stains the outline of different species, reaching for the extreme outer edges of the page to capture the animal for eternity. Penguins and ducks seem to dance and drift in space, huge haughty cats tower over us as only cats can, and every mammal manifests its character.
Her success as a prolific and driven artist comes from seclusion and commitment. She lives with her loved ones — her black and white cat, a goat and sheep — on a faraway island in southern Japan: a self-professed hobby-farmer living with the elements at the shore of her motherland, searching out the limits of life like she searches out the limits of each work of art.
For Instinct, curated by Lidewij Edelkoort and presented at Galleria Rossana Orlandi in Milan in 2025, the towering tension of her animals was translated into hand-tufted wool by El Espartano — adding another layer of density and desire, inviting us to touch the beasts, stroke the birds and cuddle the cat.
