Our Kintsugi rugs are part of a collection designed in collaboration with Patricia Anastassiadis, the renowned Brazilian architect and interior designer. They are inspired by kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing pottery by rejoining the broken pieces using gold lacquer. The technique bases its philosophy on embracing the flaws of an object and seeing them as part of its beauty. It is a philosophy Anastiassiadis incorporated into her design for the Kintsugi rug.
Made with pure virgin wool, the texture is soft and fluffy, like all of the rugs in the Alexa line. The irregular lines of the design are reminiscent of the lines that run through a piece of ceramic repaired using the kintsugi technique. The curved, rounded shape of the rug evokes Brazil's joy and relaxed spirit. The color palette of the collection represents the golden age of Rio de Janeiro.
Patricia Anastassiadis is one of Brazil’s most highly-recognized architects and interior designers. Art, history, architecture and design all come together in the projects she has completed all around the world. From her São Paulo studio, Anastassiadis Arquitetos, she brings together her roots, talent and experience in a surprising manner in each of her projects. Her work has been selected for use by the best international 5-star hotel chains.
