Designed by Brazilian architect Thiago Bicas, the Fluid rug is the result of his exploration of the intrinsic characteristics of rugs, which, although they are flexible objects, always are presented in a rigid, two-dimensional format. However, with Fluid, the designer has turned that logic on its head. He began with the idea of a traditional, striped design, “folded” it virtually using 3D software, and then “stamped” that pattern onto the rug.
Fluid is part of El Espartano’s Alexa line of rugs, which are woven using the traditional hand-tufting technique and 100% pure Argentine wool yarns. Fluid also incorporates a 3D element to its design, using different heights of plush to amplify the visual effect of the design.
